The Metaphysics of Pragmatism

Through the writings of Richard Rorty and Hilary Putnam, American pragmatism has won wide regard in contemporary philosophy. At the same time, its process metaphysical aspects have received less attention than its metaphysico-critical implications. In a series of studies of Peirce, James, and Dewey, the specific metaphysical concept of pragmatism will be worked out, and its relevance for debates in present day theoretical philosophy will be emphasised.
